THE BASIC PROGRAMS :
The Community Kitchen: “Diner-style” dining
room where a daily average of 280 people are served.
56% of POTS’ guests are low income individuals
and families whose average rent is $915 a month ~ one bedroom apartment. A family
of 4 can save up to $800 a month in food costs when they eat
in our dining room.
Public Shower Service: Provides
hygiene kits, clean fresh clothes, and a place to shower
for an average of 36 different men and women every week. (We are always in need of Men's clothing for this service.)
Clothing Service: Up to 45 different people a week “shop” in
the public closet which is open three times a week.
Haircuts: 20 different people receive free
haircuts every Wednesday.
Mail Room: 500 people without an address
receive their mail here.
 HOMELESS PREVENTION PROGRAM :
The Pantry Service: Provides supplemental
food products and non-food products to individuals and
families who need assistance balancing their food budgets.
450 families and individuals receive a pantry every month.
Each pantry contains enough non-perishable food items to
prepare 9 meals and some household products for hygiene, cleaning, or laundry.
Case Management: Our case managers directly assist guests with Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC), benefits applications, supportive housing applications, crisis management, and other life management issues. Our ability to assist guest grows through collaborative relationships with area agencies and not-for-profit organizations and referrals to other services such as~ Education and Work Training Centers , Detox & Rehabilitation Centers, Supportive Housing, and Public & Private Shelter Centers.
Legal Clinic: A free walk-in clinic run
by a full-time staff attorney. The clinic advises and represents guests in food stamps, public assistance, disability, and housing matters. Paralegals from the Urban
Justice Center assist one day a week. On average 40 new
cases are opened each month; Last year, the legal team prevented 39 evictions and obtained more than $120,000 in food stamps benefits for clients and their children.

PANS: An advocacy, guest empowerment,
and research service. Successes include updating the Bronx
Child Care Providers list of the Welfare Centers, researching
the Job Training Centers in our neighborhood, and collaborating
with the NYC Public Advocates Office to conduct the Food
Stamp Utilization survey and report. Currently, PANS is collaborating with local Bronx youth to clean and maintain a nearby park.
Psychotherapy: A licensed psychotherapist
offers short and long-term therapy one day a week. Five
individuals participate in the 1:1 sessions.
